When in Cambodia, you’re in for a rich culinary experience. Khmer food (Cambodian cuisine) is flavorful, fresh, and often less spicy than neighboring Thai food. Here are must-try Khmer meals:
Traditional Khmer Dishes: Amok Trey (Fish Amok) – Steamed fish curry with coconut milk, kroeung (herb paste), and banana leaf wrapping. Signature Cambodian dish.
Samlor Korkor – A hearty vegetable and meat stew, sometimes considered the national dish.
Bai Sach Chrouk – Grilled pork with broken rice and pickled vegetables. Common breakfast.
Nom Banh Chok – Khmer noodles with green fish curry. Popular morning street food.
Lok Lak – Stir-fried beef in a pepper-lime sauce, often served with rice and a fried egg.
Prahok Ktis – A rich, creamy dip made from fermented fish (prahok), coconut milk, pork, and herbs. Eaten with raw vegetables.
Kuy Teav – Pork or beef noodle soup with herbs. Typical breakfast.
Cha Kdao – Stir-fried beef with holy basil and vegetables.
